Arlington County, Alexandria City
Arlington and the city of Alexandria Virginia are close to Washington DC, inside the beltway.
 Fairfax County
Fairfax County Virginia is the largest county in the Washington, D.C. area. It is inside and outside the beltway. Fairfax County, VA includes Falls Church, Reston, Tyson’s Corner, McLean, Great Falls, Fairfax, Oakton, Springfield, Burke, Annandale, Chantilly, Centreville and Clifton.

Loudoun County
Loudoun County Virginia is the fast growing county that has many larger homes and diverse communities. It includes Sterling, Ashburn, Potomac Falls, Countryside, Middleburg, South Riding, Hamilton and Dulles International Airport. It has become popular partly due to the extended expressway that extends to Leesburg Virginia with views of the Shenandoah Mountains.

Prince William County
Prince William County Virginia covers the southern suburbs and is less populated.  It includes Woodbridge, Dale City, Manassas, Manassas Park and Manassas City.

Other Counties near Virginia include Fauquier County, which is farther west out Interstate 66. This is more country properties in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. It includes Warrenton, which has grown much in the past years.
Notes: Route 267 is the Dulles Toll Road. I-95 is the Interstate that goes from New York to Florida. I-66 runs west  to Front Royal, Virginia
Northern Virginia road map- Alexandria Arlington - Inside Washington DC beltway
These are the main highways and cities inside the Washington DC beltway. Installgroup serves all these areas. The main roads in Virginia near Washington DC include:
The Beltway - This is I-495 on the western side of DC. However, on the south and east side of DC, it is I-95. The I-95 part of the Beltway is the primary route for New York - Florida traffic. I-95 comes from the south and joins the Beltway at Springfield. Continuing straight north, that highway becomes I-395.
I-395 - This highway crosses the 14th Street Bridge over the Potomac River near Washington Reagan Airport (which is actually in Virginia). South of the beltway
I-66 - This is the main east to west route from Washington DC. Near the East Falls Church Metro, it splits into I-66 west and the Dulles Access Highway. This goes west to Vienna, Fairfax and many other cities, all the way to the mountains.
Dulles Toll Road - This starts as the Dulles Access Highway in Falls Church. At McLean and Tyson’s Corner, it becomes the Dulles Toll Road. Past Reston and Herndon and the airport, it enters Loudoun County and becomes the Dulles Greenway.
Farther north, one may also get to DC by taking the George Washington Parkway. This travels along the Potomac River and is sometimes a faster way to avoid the delays that may be on I-95, I-395 and I-66.
Northern Virginia counties and major highways - map
This is a map of the major counties in Northern Virginia. Washington DC is shown on the right. To the right (east and north) of the Potomac River is Maryland. Arlington and Alexandria are closest to DC. Fairfax County, the largest, is both inside and outside the beltway. Loudoun County and Prince William County are outside the beltway. Home prices inside the beltway are generally higher than outside the beltway.

The western counties are mostly rural, but there are some fairly large cities. Warren and Clarke Counties are near the Shenandoah Mountains. Spotsylvania is down south near Richmond.
